What is the concept behind this Showcase?
I built this mix around the emotional fallout of heartbreak. It unfolds as a story that moves through the joys and sorrows of love, from psychological collapse toward redemption and hope. The selection consists entirely of vinyl records, mainly from the early 2000s. It's also a tribute to overlooked tracks and former lovers who still linger in memory.
What are the highlights of this Showcase?
- 1.Alors Le Doute S'Immiscea— La PesteA 2005 12-inch by French noise/electronics outfit La Peste. The manic sound world runs completely out of control, making it the track that most clearly embodies the concept behind this mix.
- 2.Violent Clash Between Killer Bastards Of Ear Dot Remix— Vomit LunchsA masterpiece of cut-up collage noise released in 1998 on Hot Air, the label known for releases by Stock, Hausen & Walkman. There is almost no information available about Hironori Murakami, but I seem to remember hearing that he was part of the Okinawan noise scene. I own two copies of this record and absolutely love it.
- 3.Commercial Suicide— Cabbage HeadA project by Si Begg. This track comes from Death of Cool, a compilation released on his label Noodles. "Cabbage Boy," which appears later in the mix as track 20, is another of Si Begg's aliases. I've long admired how prolific he is, both through projects like these and his work on the techno side.
