What is happening in your local music scene right now?
Local artists are becoming more confident in expressing their own sound and cultural identity. They're blending Egyptian influences with other genres, creating fresh music that is reaching wider audiences and gaining international recognition.
What local spots would you recommend?
Listening Bar
I don't have one particular listening bar. I find the most inspiration in Cairo's underground venues and independent music events, where the atmosphere is shaped as much by the audience as by the music itself.
Record Shop
Unfortunately, we don't really have record shops in Egypt. Most music is discovered digitally, and I find new artists through DJs, online platforms, and the local underground scene.
Café
I don't have a particular café. Most of my musical connections happen at gigs, underground events, and through the local music community.
Label / Series
I'm always excited by independent labels that support experimental electronic music and artists who blend local culture with contemporary sounds.
I grew up surrounded by Egyptian mahraganat, the underground music scene, and the sounds of the streets. The energy, voices, and atmosphere of Egyptian weddings played a major role in shaping my musical identity.
Which artists or labels are you most excited about right now?
Rather than a few specific names, I'm inspired by Egypt's local artists, its underground music scene, and the raw sounds of Cairo. That's where I discover the most exciting new ideas.
