The DJ duo Riyo Mountains, devoted to Japanese folk music (minyo), presents a definitive mix composed exclusively of Japanese minyo tracks spanning from the early Showa era to the Heisei era.

This mix features voices and beats ranging from as far back as 1937 (Showa 12) to the late 2000s (Heisei 20s).

Often overlooked or dismissed as “not even music,” Japanese minyo carries the powerful “voice and beat of the land.” Through this mix, we hope to convey just how cool and compelling it truly is.

We believe that folk music loses its identity when severed from its land. Conversely, any music can become minyo if it connects deeply with its “hood”—the land and its people.
