Artist Interview
What are your musical roots?
My musical roots lie in early house music and the golden age of hip-hop.
I was heavily influenced by labels such as DJ International, Trax Records, MAW Records, Nervous, Nu Groove, Cutting Records, Sugar Hill, Tommy Boy, Def Jam, FFRR, Ninja Tune, DFC, Irma Records, and UMM, as well as artists like Lil Louis and Frankie Knuckles.
I was also deeply inspired by the entire Italian house movement.

Which artists or labels are you most excited about right now?
- 1.Dj KhalabDJ Khalab, also known as Raffaele Costantino, is an Italian producer and host on Rai Radio Due.
I'm drawn to his creativity, his use of field recordings in music production, and his distinctive Afrofuturist sound. - 2.Four Flies RecordsFour Flies Records is one of the most inspiring forces in contemporary Italian music research. I especially love its work exploring Italian film soundtracks from the 1960s and 1970s.
- 3.Sacred MedicineThere's no question about it. Joe Claussell and Ron Trent continue to define what true Afro house is.
Their ritualistic approach to the dance floor never fails to blow my mind.

What is happening in your local music scene right now?
The global club scene has been going through a difficult period, and that has definitely been felt, especially in a small town like mine.
I've been part of the local scene for more than twenty years, not only as a DJ but also by trying to build a community of friends and music lovers.
Today there's a lot of new talent doing its best, and I sincerely hope they find the success and satisfaction they deserve.

In many ways, it helped shape the scene from the beginning.

These days there's plenty of great old and new music to discover, but if you want to explore rare Italian Afro-funk, I highly recommend Africa Amore from Four Flies Records.

Sauro Cosimetti
My first influence was definitely my older brother.
My cousins were all DJs in the 1980s, and among them was the legendary Sauro Cosimetti of Red Zone Club (RIP).
He was one of the world's greatest DJs in the 1990s, not just in Italy.
He was also a close friend and a true mentor who taught us that DJing is far more than simply performing records.
